LLOYD FAMILY FOUNDATION PROGRAMS

  • Man Alive

    The goal of Man Alive is to mentor and council at risk males by providing them with increased academic and personal support. In addition, cultural enrichment and college tour activities are provided for students in the Man Alive program. Events include trips to tour four-year university and college campuses around the state as well as attend cultural events and join positive role models at their place of employment to enable youths to ask questions and enjoy benefits of one on one mentoring program.

    “The cultural aspect of Man Alive is just as important in our community as food and oxygen,” says one mentoree. “Many of us would never see a positive role model if we searched a lifetime, but this program helped to see another way of life.”

  • See It Through

    A major component of The Lloyd Family Foundation program is “Mentoring and Leadership”. As a foundation it is critical that participants understand the importance of positive role models and having someone whom they can speak confidently without judgment.  This program coincides with SOAR and Man Alive. We insure important mentor and networking interaction between Scholars and professionals.

    During the meticulously orchestrated meetings, everyone participate in career exploration, practical life skills and leadership development workshops; network with dozens of community leaders, corporate executives and government officials; engage through cultural, recreational and community service outings; and interact with LFF staff and sponsors as well members of LFF’s extensive volunteer corps. See It Thru is a highlighted program of LFF and year-round mentoring efforts. Throughout the year, smaller regional events and gatherings are held.

    LFF sponsors and partners offer valuable career opportunities by providing internships, permanent employment and exposure to a rich network of professionals. The LFF staff works on a customized basis with corporations, community leaders, government agencies and other employers to identify “good fit” job opportunities and to prepare individuals to become leaders in a global 

  • Earl Lloyd Stamp Campaign

    We are requesting the United States Postal Service, Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee to issue a Commemorative Stamp in honor of the late great Earl Francis Lloyd.

    On October 31, 1950, Earl Francis Lloyd became the first African-American to play in a NBA Basketball Game.The marketing strategies include the following to achieve our goals:

    • Secure current NBA players and Retired players to participate in the social media buzz campaign to drive signatures to www.change.org. The digital campaign will kick off Fall of 2016.
    • Host Black Heritage Tour in key NBA cities (New Orleans, Atlanta, Houston, Detroit, NYC and Miami) to highlight Basketball Heritage and UNCF SOAR scholarship opportunities targeting inner city youth. The Tour will kick off during Black History Month at the NBA All Star Weekend in New Orleans (February 2017).
    • Secure current NBA players and past NBA players to participate in public service announcements on Basketball Heritage.

    The campaign will focus on the following key areas to achieve its goals by:

    • Launching an awareness campaign to educate youth and communities on Basketball Heritage and the contributions made by Basketball Pioneers to the game.
    • Launching a digital campaign on all social outlets to secure 50k signatures for the Commemorative Stamp in Earl F. Lloyd’s Honor and other Basketball Pioneers.
    • Launching a national scholarship, SOAR in partnership with United Negro College Fund to provide scholarships to students that have an interested in sports related careers.
